Abstract
Excitation-contraction coupling (ECC) describes the general process that links
cell membrane excitation to Ca mobilization and development of contractile force
in the heart. Contraction is the basic cellular function of cardiac myocytes. For
the intact organ, this translates into cardiac contraction with every heart beat and pumping of blood through the systemic circulation.
